Why the retail here is unusual
Very few residential neighborhoods in the Carolinas sit inside a five-minute drive of both the region's flagship luxury retail district and a set of ordinary grocery-anchored centers. Barclay Downs does, because SouthPark grew up around it: the mall opened on land at the neighborhood's northern edge and the district assembled outward from there over sixty years. The result is that a resident can handle a Tuesday errand run and a special-occasion purchase from the same three intersections.
